چکیده
Abstract Introduction Adolescents who experience insufficient, poor quality sleep, and sleep problems might difficulties with externalizing behaviors including aggression impulse control (Bauducco et al., 2019; Brown 2022). Surprisingly, behavior for youth residing in long short-term juvenile justice facilities is understudied. The present preliminary analysis explores self-reported aggressive symptoms under the care of Department Juvenile Services (DJS). Methods Participants (N=62, 86% male, mean age = 16.8, SD=1.2) were recruited from 11 DJS detention treatment Maryland. Racial Backgrounds: 55% Black, 18% White, 14% Multiracial, 12% Other. They completed an online questionnaire focused on (daytime sleepiness, sleep-wake problems) daytime functioning (e.g., modified Aggression Questionnaire, Buss & Perry, 1992; Weinberger Adjustment Inventory, WAI, 1990). Using Pearson correlations, associations between problems, sleepiness examined. Results Self-reported associated increased difficulties. Youth more reported higher levels (r .39, p < .01) as measured by WAI .33, .05). Similarly, high also .40, .01). Conclusion Preliminary findings suggest that are likely to report challenges. Further analyses will provide a greater understanding modifying factors better understand youth’s sleep-living environment. Support (if any) This research made possible American Academy Sleep Medicine (AASM) Foundation Award #22-CS-19 Maryland Services’ supportive collaboration.
